Back in the late 90's, I was asked by a fellow Space Quest fan who went by the name Menbailee to compose a soundtrack for a fan game he was making called The Goliath Series. I never got a lot of information from him about what type of game it was going to be, as the project folded shortly after I started work.
I did get a brief that it would need a version of the classic Space Quest theme tune, as well as a "captain's log" type briefing screen, a theme for the main villain (named Khar'n), and some type of suspenseful music for the actual gameplay part.
These were the only four pieces composed for the game.
Now, more than 15 years later, I've dug out the original MIDI files and used the original notation to play them through modern VST instruments. I've also extended some of the tunes for a more satisfying listening experience, as the originals were intended to be short loops.
As an added bonus, I've included recordings of the original music files as they were meant to sound back then. They were intended to be played on a Yamaha OPL3 chip, such as the one in AdLib and SoundBlaster cards, which were the most popular sound boards of the day. But they were originally composed on a Roland Sound Canvas. So I've included both versions.
