There was going to be an arcade sequence early on at some point involving asteroids. I didn't know any more than that, but I decided, hey, if it's anything like the asteroid belt in SQ1VGA, it needs some heartpounding music. I was really into messing around with odd time signatures at the time, so I patted myself endlessly on the back for having written the arcade music in 5/4 time (which transforms to 6/8 time when the Space Quest theme comes on). I thought it would be fun to have a wonky beat for the arcade sequence, to perhaps throw gamers' rhythm off, which I remember someone on the SQ7 team saying was "cruel."
